Pauline Townsend

About

I have been a professional silk painter for 21 years.  Based in Buxton, I also run silk painting workshops throughout the year.

Using the traditional resist technique, I first outline my designs on silk using a medium called gutta, which blocks the fibres and stops the paint from spreading. I use clear and vibrant colours in my paintings of stylised flowers, landscapes and buildings.  After painting, the colours are heat fixed and become permanent and light fast.

Influences on my work include the arts & crafts period, Tiffany stained glass, the paintings of Georgia O’Keeffe, The Glasgow Boys, Cezanne and Van Gogh.

I am a member of:  The Guild of Silk Painters, Silk Painters International, High Peak Artists and Peak District Artisans.

My cards are sold in many National Trust properties throughout Derbyshire & Cheshire and cards and limited edition prints are always available through my online shop.
