Wednesday Art Group - Memories

This is the first exhibition at Castle Park for the Wednesday Art Group (WAG). Meeting each week for over twenty five years, we come together to pursue our love of painting, especially in watercolour. “Memories” is a record of things that we have  experienced that occupy a special place in our heart. Welcome to the places, people or beauty of Nature  we have tried to capture in our work. We hope you enjoy our exhibition and maybe retrace memories of your own.

‘Worms Head’

(Recollections of a landscape)

Taking the geomorphology of the Gower peninsula as a starting point to explore the notion of recollection and its fractured hold on memory.

By concentrating on liminal space, this creates the possibility of removing topographical representation, allowing the mediums to be used in an expressive way to illuminate the perceptions of place.

The analogy of a threshold space can also be considered part of the process of making, where the image drifts between representation and abstraction.

Ten Plus Textiles

Fri, 29/06/2018 - Sun, 05/08/2018
Ten Plus Textiles
Ten Plus Textiles
Ten Plus Textiles - Formed in 1991 by ten textile artists based in the North West who wanted to work together and promote an appreciation of embroidery in all its forms. They have developed their own individual styles, using a range of techniques, but all have the common aim of working with fibres and fabric to promote a greater appreciation of contemporary textile art. From fine hand and machine embroidery, patchwork, quilting and beadwork, to weaving, handmade felt and paper, collage and mixed media, the members create work that demonstrates both the aesthetics of modern design and the unique surface qualities of decorative stitch. Their work is rich, luxurious and ornate in texture and colour and represents a fusion of traditional textile methods with original and inventive ideas and creations.

As the expertise of the group continues to cover an increasingly wide range of disciplines, the group members feel that this diversity is their strength. What unifies them, however, is a fascination for the language of colour and texture and the myriad of ways in which these can be used to communicate moods and ideas. Their work includes framed pieces and hangings, three dimensional items, fashion accessories and jewellery. MEET THE ARTISTS OPEN EVENING ON 29TH JUNE 7pm to 9pm free entry and refreshments
