The Castle Park Arts Centre Gardening Group

The gardening group at Castle Park Arts Centre came together in the summer of 2020 to help improve the courtyard area and its immediate surroundings, which had become badly overgrown. In the following three years we have transformed the appearance of the garden areas so that they now complement the wonderful building which the arts centre occupies.

What also happened as a by product of the garden improvement was that the volunteers who came together, following an appeal on Facebook, got a great deal of personal benefit both from the social activities that went along with the garden work as well as some fresh air in the outdoors. Because the activities of the group between 10:00 and 12:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays coincide with elevens is in the courtyard, the gardening work is also accompanied by excellent music.

The gardening group also engage with passersby and share views on gardening, plants and life in general. In summary, as a volunteer with our group you will get to meet people, enjoy good company a cup of tea or coffee and get plenty of fresh air.

Our group is always keen to attract new members so that if this sounds like a good idea to you, please get in touch with the Arts Centre. We are none of us professional gardeners, but we do have a good deal of knowledge between us, and we are always keen to get more.

The aim of the group now is to keep this space free from litter and planted with attractive flowers and shrubs. Because we are in a semi woodland location there is much brushing up of leaves and debris to be done. As the pictures on the following pages show, it is a very rewarding task. So, if you would like to help us maintain and improve these areas please get in touch.
