About

My main inspiration is the landscape, both rural and urban. Subjects could be anything from the wild grandeur of the Peaks and Lakes, to the spectacular cityscapes of Manchester and the quirky back alleys of northern towns. Observational drawing outdoors is a big part of my practice, and I’m an enthusiastic urban sketcher. In the studio, I paint mainly in oils, enjoying their buttery texture and unrivalled vibrancy. In this exhibition, I’ve included paintings of subjects that caught my eye in Frodsham, Helsby and the surrounding area, as well as paintings from further afield – from Liverpool to Venice.  And although I love to capture light and colour in the ‘big picture’, sometimes I find myself inspired by close-up details, and zoom in on still life. I have taken part in numerous open exhibitions and outdoor painting competitions in the Northwest, including the Castle Park Open, Stockport Open, Hayfield Pro Loco, and Buxton Spa Prize. I have been part of group shows at Salford Art Gallery, Inch Arts and the Goose Green Art gallery in Altrincham, the Green Man in Buxton, and the Parsonage, Didsbury. I currently have work in MASA-UK in Bury, Technically Brilliant in Warrington, and on EASEL (Manchester Art Fair’s online site).
