Contemporary Threads is a vibrant and supportive group with 30 members. Established in 2018, we are passionate about all things textile, stitching and mixed media. We aim to provide mutual inspiration for creating beautiful pieces, encouraging each other to stretch ourselves and to share ideas and techniques.

Natural Forms is the theme for our fourth exhibition and lends itself to diverse conceptual and technical interpretations. Individual pieces range in their focus from the individual to the collective…. from plants to birds and the human form. ………. from seed heads to woodlands and the broader landscape.

The different manifestations of Natural Forms represented here lend themselves to richly diverse textile techniques and methods, including designing and dyeing cloth [some using plants themselves], stitch, embroidery, beading, quilting and felting.

All of us are inspired by nature’s awesome magic and beauty, manifest in many forms. The wide range of individual exhibits reflect our individual experiences of the natural world and the aspects which particularly speak to us. We have each employed our chosen techniques to reflect and interpret our favourite places, plants and birds in our own voice and style.
