Overall Winner of the Judges Award

Green Rain by Derek Johnson

This is a painting that we just could not stop looking at. It draws you in and really makes you feel like you are walking into the wood.  It  has great vibrancy and a painterly energy. There is a masterly use of greens. Derek Johnson has a distinctive and confident technique and this painting is extremely well executed'.

Judges Awards

Sarah Morley chose ' Warning' by Andrea Sadler

This painting stood out for me from the moment I first saw it. I think the choice of subject matter is intruiging. The painting shows how much can be made of the sort of building that many artists in search of subject matter would pass by. I also liked the sense of drama, the use of the dark tones and contrasting orange and a little blue and I thought the composition was interesting.  The building is seen slightly on a slant which actually creates an interesting tension in the painting. This painting is also beautifully executed.

Kevin Sparrow chose The Chasm at Gill Force 1 by Dorothy Taylor

I loved the subtle combination of colours in contrast to the sharp lines depicting the rock formations, which gave the painting a semi abstract feel. I also liked the tree branch across the top left corner, it felt as if it was inviting me to explore the cool water of the stream below.

Ronnie Drillsma chose  “Reaching Horse” by Jane Cavanagh

I chose this above all the other lovely Artworks, because I was immediately reminded of Leonardo’s drawings of horses. It was like a charcoal drawing in 3D.

Graceful, elegant, aesthetically beautiful.
