Paul Brotherton - Restricted Perspectives

"Restricted Perspectives"

Brotherton's new collection of abstract paintings was created during artistic isolation, against a backdrop of recent lockdowns, pandemic restrictions, media overload, cancel culture and loss of freedoms, reacting to an atmosphere of fear. The works represent personal reflections of this period, telling contemporary stories that reference the ancient tradition of painting and the artist's modernist background, whilst incorporating continual investigations beyond the canon through critical pedagogy. Themes are influenced by his inclusive teacher training, experience as a freelance art lecturer and an earlier career in corporate design.
