Georgina Spry

About

Georgina has been teaching for over 30 years in and around art education. She has always had a passion for the arts, and for the last 15 years has been conveying these skills to inspiring and established teachers at university. She is an artist and an arts-based researcher. Completing an Education Doctorate supported her research into personal and professional study in the arts, notably crafts-based research. Her thesis researched how groups of craftspeople support each other by learning new skills and how this knowledge is transferred between them, alongside research into how crafts are used as a place of reflection and healing.

She has dabbled with a variety of art forms over the years; predominantly experimenting and developing felting skills and processes over the last 20 years. The exhibited work is an experiential journey into macramé and how this craft can be adapted into contemporary art.

She feels her artistic journey has been, and still is, a remarkable one filled with an abundance of wonderfully skilful and generous artists and craftspeople. She finds inspiration everywhere she looks, and that inevitably filters down into her work.
