About

I work from my studio in Buxton which has wonderful views of the town and surrounding countryside. I take my inspiration from the natural and built environment, painting gardens, flowers, landscapes and architecture. My intricate paintings of architecture combine elements of buildings with vibrant colours and snippets of collage. I like to play around with shapes and decorative details to create unusual compositions. I work in acrylics, Watercolour and mixed media. I do love an exuberant garden with a riot of colour and it is this intensity that I try to capture in my paintings of flowers and gardens. I am particularly drawn to detail, structure and the play of light across the leaves and petals.

I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA Hons in Graphic Design and after taking a gap year to travel round India I trained as a specialist teacher of art and design. I have taught art for twenty five years and I now work full time as a professional artist.
